A legalistic “cult” I was in in the late 1980’s tore my heart to pieces because of the guilt and shame I felt and the accusing and pointing out all of my shortcomings. I left that “church” and turned away from God for 35 years because of the hurt caused by a legalistic religion. BUT GOD……… He never left me and I came back to Him, I am not condemned but Forgiven, Thank You God for your Grace.
Beverly, I am so sorry that happened to you. That behavior is what is shameful and just sad. It can take so long to heal from that kind of legalistic spiritual abuse. But praise God, you are right that He never left you and never will!
I have forgiven those in that “church” who hurt me for they were blind and ignorant to the truth and thought they were doing what was right. I pray too that they have come to know the TRUTH.
So well said. Learning and leaning into Him. Letting go of what others think of me and what I should do—to simply enjoy Him and allow Him to work in and through me.
Thank you, Andrea. Such great wisdom can come with age and through trials in life. What a blessing it is to enjoy Him in this life and the one to come.
