Hormones wreak havoc in the teen years and mid-life too. Both seasons of life have so much in common. Such as excessive sweating, brain fog, the desire to change your hair and its color, and the ease at which profanity slips out of your mouth. Oh, the joys of being human.

Changing hormones feels like a dark night of the soul.

But, it is one we all survive.

We will have times when we feel as if we are struggling our way through knee-deep mud and won’t live to tell the tale. Let’s face facts. Hormonal changes suck.

Just as we can look up because our redemption draws nigh, we can look ahead and know this too shall pass. It is a promise. Not one without bumps, bruises, and a few scars, but it will pass. So we might as well help each other through it.

If you've raised children through the teen years, you feel this deeply. If you're in the middle of your life, battling night sweats, and can’t decide what you want to eat for dinner to save your life, I got you—been there, doing that.

Your teens must go through it, and nothing you do will change that. However, it can be easier when you listen more, lower your expectations a bit, and accept the fact that they will make choices, good and bad, and suffer the consequences.

You can’t save them from everything.

You don’t want them to suffer, but you must let them struggle to avoid even more suffering.
