Faith Is Messy
My life of faith isn’t neat and orderly, perfectly presented, and constantly stable. I bet you can relate. No Christian has a perfect life and never-wavering faith. Sometimes we cling to our faith like it’s a tiny thread hanging from heaven, and if we let go, we’re doomed. We think it depends on us. That isn’t so.
Faith is, instead, a living, breathing, changing, and growing essential in the life of a Christian. It is given to us by God for our salvation. He gives us the ability to believe in Him, but how that faith is worked out in the sanctifying life of believers looks different.
For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— Ephesians 2:8
Your faith isn’t to be measured against someone else's. We are each given a measure of it, but it is not for us to judge the faith of someone else or how they live that out. Instead, we are to do what God called us to do and live out our purpose, which is to bring Him glory in all we do. Our focus should be on Jesus and not on judging other believers.
Part of my life of faith is sharing my experiences from the messy middle of my life to help you with your own. I always pray my readers see themselves in at least parts of my story and feel encouraged that, although things might be messy, God never leaves us alone in it. Your faith may be strong today and waver tonight, but it is always there because God isn’t taking it back.
