I was thinking about my mother‘s death, and sometimes I think I’ll never be right again. The broken pieces and hidden places inside feel like they will never be made whole. It isn’t possible. There are some things I let go of while others can heal, but it can’t be like before. So many things in life are that way. You find yourself wanting things the way they were but they can never be. It requires gratitude for what was, what is, and what can be.

I often feel as if my life has fractured into a million tiny pieces all consisting of grief, love, pain, and courage. In all their cracked and jagged glory, this is my life. It often feels like a complete mess and I wonder if I’m doing anything right. Some days I’m celebrating I brush my teeth. On other days I have an explosion of ideas and a strong impetus to jump in. Days come along where I truly love my current life trusting God this is the most merciful one I could be living, while other days have me deep in sorrow of things lost and questioning my future. Those cracked and jagged bits might cut and confuse sometimes, but they all fit. Somewhere, somehow, God makes them all work for my good. In the end, that creation will be beautiful.

I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. I’ve heard from many of you that this is also your life. Loving so many parts of your reality yet there are hidden hurts that never seem to go away. They hide below the surface and leak out your eyes. It’s humanity in honest, raw moments such as this, that I was born to speak to and encourage the one suffering.

I’ve lost it a few times when the grocery store clerk asked how my day was going. Well, it isn’t some days. I know you feel the same. So, what are we to do?
