Empty Spaces

We have empty spaces in our homes and hearts that we attempt to fill. We gather more things in a sad attempt to fill the void, as if filling those empty spaces can make us happier, healthier, or wiser.

Collecting more junk won’t help anything. It makes the void heavier and creates more weight we carry.

We can all benefit from a clean slate. Our homes and hearts need a good washing.

I’m thankful Jesus takes care of my spirit within, and the overflow of what’s earthly gets washed on repeat throughout my lifetime. My salvation is secure, and the dirt collected from this earthly life doesn’t tip the scales against me and my eternal security. Jesus washes my spirit once, and I’m clean forever. But my sin dirties my words, thoughts, and deeds, and causes earthly problems—for me and others. We can wash away the accumulated clutter, ridding ourselves of the unnecessary. This is the way of the Christian life. So it goes for all of us.
